What People Are Saying

School Specialty Planning & Student Development field-tested samples of a first edition of its McREL professional planner with nearly 400 educators during the 09/10 academic year. Participants included administrators and teachers from schools across the United States. Educator feedback provided critical insight in terms of how educators can use the planner to extend professional development training they receive on the research-based strategies from the book Classroom Instruction that Works.

"I like the format of the McREL professional planner. It allows me to prioritise what I need to do for the day. It also allows me to refer to a source listed in the planner. It keeps me on track. It also helps me to reflect on my McREL training." Administrator

"The calendar is very helpful because I can list information I need to do on a weekly and/or daily basis. I also like that the information regarding putting what works is available to reread at a glance. I absolutely loved the quotes. The Discuss, Reflect, and Think sections were excellent. Excellent bookmarker too!" Educator

"I like the Think, Record, Act and Check sections of the planner. These concepts are vital to successful teaching and academic success. Oftentimes, we plan our days without setting specific priorities or checking back and reflecting on what we have done. I also like the fact that the planner includes pages for weekly lesson plans as well as individual lesson plans. There are occasionally lessons that may need to be detailed, and the individual lesson plan pages affords you the opportunity to do so." Administrator

"The planner was very well structured, providing staff important details all combined in one document. This simplifies things." Educator

"[I like that] everything is in one place. Also, it is a great guide to lead us through the development of a Purposeful Community." Educator

"I like the discussion and reflection segments and the references to the book for further reflection. The weekly check, review and reflect reminders help provide a system of focusing." Educator

"The calendar is very convenient for personal and professional appointments." Administrator

"The appearance is attractive. [I like] the many different compartments–the business card holder section and the zipper section. Most of all, [I like] the wealth of information contained within the planner." Administrator

"The page-finder [was helpful] because it was durable [and had] concise information to keep you subliminally focused on effective teaching and effective leadership." Administrator
